Hired
YES, I have been hired as a music teacher for a school in Leiden (the Netherlands)! The last weeks were stressfull, as I didn’t know if I had enough hours as a teacher.
I teach English and Music, but I’m qualified for the last one. I lost my English hours, as my current school has to deal with less students for the next scholastic year and that means less classes and less lessons to give by the teachers.
I was interviewed by music colleagues who are younger than I am and blushed when I asked a question that problaby was too difficult for them. Members of the staff who eagerly wanted a music teacher who was willing to put a lot of hours (read: unpaid overhours) in music activities after schooltime and music events to promote the school. I think I drew too much borders or doing it unconsciously. So, I got calls from school with the message: “We’ve decided not to take you for the job….”.
Fortunately, two school were impressed by my résumé and the interviews went well. I have chosen one school and I’m looking forward to the next year. I’ve still one week to go and then I’ll dive into a sunny summer holiday!
