(My) Favorite Things
Everybody has got their own favorite things in life, whereby the existence on earth gets a little bit more endurable or nicer, better of more exciting.
A cup of fresh coffee can do the trick to get someone happy (and awake) in the morning, there are others who don’t bother if you would call them up in the middle of the night for some sushi or mothers’ apple pie.
Some people capture their favorite thing in images, poetry or for example a song.
The musical the Sound of Music contains a beautiful song about the pleasures in life. Some text of the song:
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things.
The jazz giant and saxophone virtuoso John Coltrane arranged the song into a jazz piece, what eventually would become a famous jazz standard. He took it in his live repertoire, that inspired other jazz musicians to do the same.
